A little over a month after signing a new one-year deal, the Chiefs corner now faces what could be significant legal trouble.
According to a report published by ESPN’s Adam Teicher, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland was arrested in York County, South Carolina on Tuesday — and is now facing multiple charges.
Breeland, 28, faces charges of resisting arrest, having alcohol in a motor vehicle with the seal broken, having an open container of beer or wine in a motor vehicle, possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana or 10 grams of hash, and driving without a license.
Teicher reported that the Chiefs said they were “aware of the situation” but would have no further comment.
Now entering his seventh NFL season, Breeland was a significant part of the Chiefs team that finished the season with a Super Bowl win, starting 15 games. He allowed a completion percentage of only 48.4%, a passer rating of just 92.2 and intercepted two passes in the regular season. In Super Bowl LIV, he collected seven tackles, a second-quarter interception and a pass defensed.
Breeland first joined the Chiefs a year ago on a single-season contract. In the offseason, he was widely expected to find a multi-year free agent deal with another team. But on March 19, the Chiefs re-signed their cornerback to another one-year deal worth up to $5 million.
