Fresh links on deck for a Monday.

Happy Monday, ya’ll. Lots of Falcons news and notes from over the weekend. Read on for today’s edition of Falcoholinks.

A trade up for ... a quarterback?

This is one of the strangest rumors to emerge from this draft season, but it is draft season so things get pretty weird. On Complex’s Load Management podcast, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggested that the Falcons could make the jump in the first round of the draft to snag a quarterback.

Fever dream stuff. Watching the collective meltdown would be amusing, at least.

Shifting starters

With the Falcons moving on from De’Vondre Campbell and Kemal Ishmael, the linebacker spot is an obvious area of need. Dan Quinn recently expressed confidence in Foye Oluokun assuming a starting role in the linebacking corps, led of course by Deion Jones.

Left guard and swing tackle are another story altogether. The Falcons brought in James Carpenter and Jamon Brown last year, both failing to live up to their signings and finding themselves out of the picture by season’s end. That spot is far from settled.

Deion Disapproves

Todd Gurley announced that he would be sporting No. 21 during his time in Atlanta, a number recently vacated by former cornerback Desmond Trufant. Even though multiple players have worn Deion’s former number since he left the Falcons for the 49ers in 1994, he still, inexplicably, told Todd Gurley not to wear it.

Todd Gurley will wear it regardless.

Expanded roles

The Falcons brought back defensive end Steven Means for 2020, and have a promising-yet-raw second-year defender in John Cominsky. Quinn praised both in his latest presser, hinting that they could play larger roles in the upcoming season.

MOOOOOOCKS

The 2020 NFL Draft is right around the corner, so The Falcoholic’s Eric Robinson has dropped the final iteration of his full mock draft for the Atlanta Falcons.

Editor-in-Chief Dave Choate also contributed to SB Nation’s mock draft, snagging a prototypical Dan Quinn corner at No. 16.

Good works

From Arthur Blank to Matt Ryan to Grady Jarrett, the Falcons franchise has seen numerous players and executives step up for the community during the COVID-19 crisis. New arrival Todd Gurley is already chipping in as well, donating more than 1 million Beyond Burgers across the United States.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium has also been lit up in blue in honor of medical personnel and essential workers who are risking their own health each day fighting this virus.
