Golden Nuggets: Are the 49ers locked in at cornerback or receiver at 13?

We’ve been fighting over which wide receiver the San Francisco 49ers are going to take in the first round since the moment we found out the Niners own the No. 13 overall pick. The closer we get to the draft, the more it seems like one of the top wideouts won’t be available, and the 49ers will go in a different direction.

Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller said in his scouting notebook that “he’s been hearing from his sources around the league” and they are saying that San Francisco is zoning inn on two positions at No. 13, while the expectation is the 49ers trade out of their final first-round pick:

“Two picks in the first round could add much more firepower to an already good roster, but many league sources expect the 49ers to attempt to trade back from No. 31 overall after targeting a top wide receiver or cornerback at No. 13.”

Miller reported last year that there was friction between Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch almost a year ago. Miller told one person who replied to him to “check his track record” with the 49ers. For those that don’t know, Miller is a 49ers fan and did have sources in the organization under the previous regime.

The worst-kept is the 49ers trying to trade out of pick No. 31 to acquire more draft capital. Fox Sports 1’s Jason Mcintyre hopped in to reply to the person that called Miller to say, “Oh, they’re definitely looking at CB but not there. Would have to trade down and could for someone who wants Lamb or Ruggs.”

Everything will read like speculation, and we are approaching the window where it’s time to stop believing everything you read. If Miller is right, I’m sure he will quote tweet himself and say, “see?” If he’s wrong, nobody will remember, and we’ll keep it moving as nothing happened. As for the picks, it’s going to be the best player available. If the 49ers feel like C.J. Henderson gives them a better chance to win over Jerry Jeudy, they’ll go Henderson. If Javon Kinlaw or an offensive lineman is too good to pass up, then that’s the pick.
