San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle hosted an AMA Friday afternoon on Bleacher report where fans could ask the Niners star about anything. As you’d imagine, most questions revolved around wrestling, tight ends, and Jimmy G. Kittle said Vikings safety Harrison Smith “is fun to talk crap to, and New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Cam Jordan is fun, too.” I’d bet a lot of NFL players would list Jordan. Kittle was asked what he felt went wrong at the Super Bowl, to which he replied:
Plenty went wrong on both sides. You gotta take adv of your opportunities, and we just didn’t do that. When you’re playing a team like the Chiefs, explosive players all over the field, they won the game. Our offense didn’t close it out. Our defense didn’t either. They just played a great game.
I’m surprised someone asked that question, but kudos to Kittle for answering. We need to talk about Kittle’s top-five greatest tight ends list. There’s a lot of homerism and recency bias:
Clark. Gronk. Gonzalez. Gotta put Kelce up there just because four 1,000 yard seasons in a row is just incredible. Nobody’s done it before. I’m gonna go with Gates; he’s just an absolute monster. He runs some of the cleanest short, stick, return routes. Nobody moves like that. I like watching Jimmy Graham, too, especially when he was with the Saints. He was just balling.
That should be expected, considering Kittle’s age. Dallas Clark, a former Iowa Hawkeye, is a player Kittle modeled himself after growing up. Here is Kittle on if it’s annoying to defend Jimmy Garoppolo all of the time:
It is what it is. When there’s not a lot going on, people like to stir the pot. Is it annoying? Yes, because I feel like Jimmy has proven himself week-in and week-out. First season as starting QB, we went to the Super Bowl. No. 1 in 3rd down conversion rate, not bad. People just like to stir the pot. It’s okay tho.
When people ask these questions, I always wonder what they expect their teammates to say?
In a surprise to nobody, Kittle said Seattle and New Orleans were the most hostile places to play in the NFL. He also said he has four Jimmy G shirts in his locker. Here’s a random question. Kittle was asked out of anyone on the 49ers who would he let cut his hair. Kittle answered Jimmie Ward because he has a good haircut all of the time.
