Would that even be enough?
The last few months have been hectic for the Cincinnati Bengals.
An active free agency period has sparked a new mindset in the Queen City, one that will be topped off with the official securing of LSU’s phenom quarterback Joe Burrow.
Burrow is coming off one of the best college football season’s in NCAA history, having won both a Heisman trophy and the college football title. He’s the clear No. 1 pick in the fully virtual draft that’ll kick off in just a few weeks.
Having a veteran quarterback on their roster, the Bengals are in a position where they could deal that pick. While extremely unlikely, Pro Football Talk’s Peter King is hoping that Miami’s GM Chris Grier proposes an offer that includes four first-round picks.
“I think, if I were Miami GM Chris Grier, and I liked Joe Burrow clearly above all other quarterbacks this year, I’d call the Bengals and offer four first-round picks for Cincinnati’s first overall pick. I think, if I were Cincinnati owner Mike Brown, I’d say no—under one important condition,” King said on his Football Morning in America columns.
The Bengals should, as King notes, turn it down.
All indications are that the Bengals have fallen in love with Burrow. After Mike Brown, joined the conversation with the young quarterback, it seems almost guaranteed that he’s the favorite.
However, four first-round picks is a haul that has to at least be considered. By a team that doesn’t necessarily have the best track record for success, the Dolphins would likely be on edge even considering tossing four potential high-value picks to Cincinnati.
What’s Burrow worth? Is it four first-round picks? While those in Cincinnati and Miami likely think so, does the front office?
