Giants' DeAndre Baker will go before a judge on Sunday morning

New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker turned himself in to the Miramar (Fla.) Police Department on Saturday morning, which came nearly 40 hours an arrest warrant had been issued for four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.

The 22-year-old Baker, alongside Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar, is accused of robbing multiple people at a party last Wednesday night, making off with over $10,000 in cash and over $60,000 in watches.

Baker was booked into Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and was held on “no bail.” His first hearing will come on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. ET with a judge in Broward County’s 17th Judicial Circuit.

Baker’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, who has represented the likes of Plaxico Burress, Dennis Rodman, DMX, Vanilla Ice and Kodak Black, has cautioned against a rush to judgement.

“I am a believer in the system and that if everything works the matter will be appropriately resolved,” Cohen wrote on Instagram. “Both my client and I have felt Miramar PD and the Detective working the case were accommodating and went out of their way to assure Mr. Bakers privacy during this hard time. That is not just lip service, it is fact and we appreciate it.

“This is my 23rd year in practice defending those who I feel are wrongly charged or wrongly treated. That doesn’t mean that all police officers are bad or all are good. We all have jobs to do and I believe we all do them to the best of our ability. Police reports are just that, reports of what was told to them or said to them. Court is what we use to then examine those reports, investigate those claims and allow the defendant an opportunity to confront the evidence. Don’t rush to judgement.”

Baker, a 2019 first-round pick, is entering his second season with the Giants. His rookie season was less than spectacular, both and and off the field. He reportedly slept through some team meetings and was ripped by some anonymous teammates for a “lack of professionalism.”

If convicted, Baker faces a recommended minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
