A quiet afternoon in May got a little more interesting when, on Wednesday, news broke of a reported contract offer from the Seahawks to Devonta Freeman.
The offer, according to NFL Network’s Mike Silver, was worth up to $4 million. That gave further context to the original report, courtesy of Adam Caplan, who had reported Seattle’s offer was below what Freeman wanted.
Man, @caplannfl is on fire @FantasyPts. Just said #Seahawks have made an offer to Devonta Freeman because they don't think Rashaad Penny will be ready for Week 1.

Freeman is asking for more than the offer. Seahawks holding their position.
Silver, after providing contract details for the Seahawks’ offer to Freeman, offered a new name: Seattle has also been in contact with another veteran free agent, former 49er tailback Carlos Hyde.

Hyde, entering his age-30 season, is coming off a strong season with the Texans that saw him break the 1000-yard marker for the first time. Houston was Hyde’s third team in two seasons, having split 2018 between the Browns and Jaguars after departing San Francisco.
Hyde is fresh off a much better 2019 than Freeman, and the veteran could draw a contract in the same range as the former Falcon, after earning $2.8 million a year ago.
Though the Seahawks did not strike a deal with either tailback on Wednesday, it appears they are heading in that direction.
