Steve Atwater makes our list of emotional Broncos moments

When the Broncos legend got the knock on his door welcoming him to the Hall of Fame, it was one of the most incredible moments in franchise history.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

About the only emotion the Denver Broncos have been able to elicit the last five years is anger.

Perhaps embarrassment in a few instances.

Throw in the Kansas City Chiefs winning the Super Bowl ... that just adds to the angst.

So when Steve Atwater got the knock on his hotel room door the day before that horrible Sunday in Miami, the emotion came out. It still comes out.

Tears of pure joy. Man, that feels like ages ago.

On the MHR Radio Podcast, Adam Malnati and I ran with SB Nation’s theme of the week: moments in sports that made you emotional. As a Broncos fan, there are the obvious ones of Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl 50. I wanted to go with a recent one still fresh on the minds of all in Broncos Country.

In the process of putting this story together, I’ve watched the video of Steve getting that knock about 20 times and I can’t get enough. The emotion The Smiling Assassin shows when Hall of Fame President David Baker knocks on his door is everything.

It still feels surreal that Atwater is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In these bizarre and precarious times, it’s nice to have a reminder of a moment of true bliss. As a Broncos fan, hopefully it’s the first in a swing to more positive emotional moments when it comes to Drew Lock and the franchise.
