Falcoholinks: All the Falcons news you need for Monday, June 1

New month, new links.

Welcome to June, the next month in the longest year in human history. We’ve got some fresh links for you to peruse this Monday morning in Falcoholinks.

Forgotten Falcons

A fun little series that we’ve started, Forgotten Falcons, tracks some of the former Atlanta Falcons that may not immediately come to mind when you think of the team’s rosters throughout its history. This week we looked at the careers of defensive tackle Rod Coleman, quarterback Bobby Hebert, lightning-quick running back Antone Smith, and running back Erric Pegram.

Give this series a read and reacquaint yourself with these Falcons of the past.

Where’s Devonta headed?

Devonta Freeman turned down an offer from the Seattle Seahawks, and was rumored to be mulling sitting out the season if a team did not meet his salary expectations. A couple of teams are considering bringing Devonta in, with the former Falcon weighing offers from the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Bucs.

The latter would make for some intriguing games, to be sure.

Post-June 1st free agency targets

The Falcons are receiving a cap space windfall today with the post-June 1st cut of cornerback Desmond Trufant. Could they choose to spend some of that money to bring in a defensive tackle? The Falcons appear pretty set on the interior of the line, but you can never have enough reliable bodies at that position.

They could also bolster their secondary with an addition at the cornerback spot.

Falcons speak on George Floyd

We are at a flash point in this country. A confluence of events — the pande mic, skyrocketing unemployment, and the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer have a nation in peril. I implore you to read Jeanna Thomas’ recent editorial on George Floyd’s death, and the comments that members of the Falcons have made on the enduring epidemic of black Americans dying in police custody.

Young Falcons

So who are the young Atlanta Falcons positioned to make an impact in the 2020 season? We name five of them who should not be written off this year.
