Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
NFL Power-Ranking Surprises (Bucs 5th? Raiders 8th?!) Take Back Seat. Our Country Is At A Crossroads - FMIA
15. Philadelphia (9-8, lost NFC wild-card game 17-9 to Seattle). What a hard-to-read team. So many “yeah, buts.” The biggest: Eagles were 5-7 last year and needed to win four in a row to ensure a playoff spot—and did . . . but the beat-up offense scored 10, 9 and 9 points against playoff teams in the last eight games. Everything was a struggle last year. But quarterback Carson Wentz had a mostly redemptive season, playing all 17 games after missing the ends of the previous two years with injuries. Wisely, GM Howie Roseman decided to stock up to help the offense, drafting wideout Jalen Reagor, who needs to be impactful from day one, and quarterback Jalen Hurts, who needs to be impactful in season one. For five years, the Eagles kept hoping Nelson Agholor would be something more than a complementary piece, but he never was. He’s gone, and now Reagor needs to show up from day one. I’m amazed at the anti-Hurts sentiment out there. Dinosaur thinking, I believe. Baltimore loved Jalen Hurts, for instance. Not saying the Ravens would have taken him, particularly with J.K. Dobbins left on the board, but Baltimore wouldn’t have been afraid to insert him in the offense six or eight plays a game to scare the crap out of the defense. Same with Doug Pederson, who can handle the mental state of Wentz and be sure he knows that all Hurts can do is make Wentz better. With some teams, the backup quarterback is a top-10-important player on the team. When the franchise quarterback has missed 13 games due to injury in the last three years, that makes the backup QB much more important. Oh, and a sentence for the defense: Darius Slay is a heck of a pickup for the secondary, particularly with the non-division slate of quarterbacks on the way—Niners, Steelers, Ravens, Seahawks, Packers, Saints, Cardinals. I say Week 16, Eagles at Cowboys, is the championship game of the NFC East. [BLG Note: King ranks Dallas as the ninth best team.]

He’s very talented at finding the ball and making plays. He had some spectacular interceptions (6 this past year) and reads the ball well.
Eagles mailbag: The backup QB situation, the improved defense, and more - PhillyVoice
I have never bought the “Taysom Hill” stuff, and don’t believe that the Eagles will try to use Jalen Hurts similarly. Hurts is a quarterback, and they’re going to develop him as one. That said, I do wonder if they’ll keep Hurts active on gameday, even if not used in a gadget role, if Sud is the No. 2 to start the season. In the playoff loss to the Seahawks, the Eagles could have used their No. 3 quarterback, and I’ll bet they’ve taken a closer look this offseason at the positives and negatives of keeping a third quarterback active, especially after drafting one in the second round. But if I have to guess, I would bet that Hurts will be inactive on game day if indeed Sud is the No. 2.
Before They Were Eagles - Iggles Blitz
It is always interesting to look back to my old scouting reports and see where I was right and where I was wrong. With that in mind, let’s see what I had to say about some Eagles when they were random draft prospects.
DeSean Jackson, Lane Johnson Talk NFL Games Without Fans, LeSean McCoy to Eagles - B/R
“Yeah, it’s gonna get crazy. I think they should, though. They should give the fans the inside to really see what goes on between the white lines,” Jackson replied. “It gets crazy, bro. I know in the trenches it gets crazy, and I know out there on the outside it gets crazy too with the conversations we going back and forth on.”
10 Eagles observations, including the greatness of Reggie White - NBCSP
9. Before last year, only four players in Eagles history had netted 150 yards both rushing and receiving over the last four games of a season (Wilbert Montgomery twice, Keith Byars in 1988, Herschel Walker in 1993 and Brian Westbrook twice). Last year, both Miles Sanders AND Boston Scott did it, making the Eagles the first team in NFL history with that distinction. Doug Pederson’s ability to effectively use both backs as receivers and runners with the wide receiver cupboard bare was a crucial dimension of the Eagles’ 4-0 finish. It will be interesting to see how Doug deploys his backs this year with presumably an upgraded wide receiving corps because they sure look like a lethal combination. Scott needs a role in this offense.
George Floyd’s killing has opened the wounds of centuries of American racism - Vox
The death of George Floyd, an unarmed 46-year-old black man killed by police during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has sparked protests across the country. It has reignited a centuries-long conversation around racism in America and the horrendous ways black people are often treated by police. And it came amid a pandemic that is disproportionately impacting people of color.
