Report: Giants will report to training camp on July 28

The New York Giants have not yet released their 2020 training camp schedule, but it appears that their report date has been set.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that 28 NFL teams must report to training camp on July 28 — 47 days before the Week 1 kickoff for those playing on Sunday and 48 days before the Week 1 kickoff for those playing on Monday.

The Giants, of course, will open against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.

Whereas teams used to be required to report to training camp 15 days before their preseason opener, 28 NFL teams now must report July 28 — which is 47 or 48 days before Week 1 of the regular season — league sources said.

The teams playing Sunday, Sept. 13, must report to camp 47 days before their opener, and the teams scheduled to play Monday, Sept. 14, must report 48 days before that game.

The four teams not scheduled to report on July 28 are the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Chiefs and Texans will open the regular season on Thursday, September 10, while the Cowboys and Steelers will play in the Hall of Fame Game, which alters their training camp schedule a bit.

Although the report date has been tentatively set, it is subject to change based on how the NFL and NFLPA ultimately decide to handle the coronavirus pandemic. If there is a significant second wave, it could dramatically alter training camp schedules, as well as the preseason and regular season.
