Re-drafting the NFL: We picked 128 foundational players across all 32 teams - ESPN
Round 1 (21): Baker Mayfield, QB. Round 2 (44): Chase Young, DE. Round 3 (85): Lane Johnson, OT. Round 4 (108): A.J. Brown, WR. I bought low on the 25-year-old Mayfield, believing circumstance dragged him down last season and that he’s poised for a sharp ascent entering Year 3. Given that we’re looking at a five-year window to pursue a championship, I can’t think of an edge rusher I’d rather bet on than the exceptionally gifted Young, who led the FBS with 16.5 sacks last season. I would have preferred a left tackle in Round 3, but it would have been a forced pick given the players available, and you can sleep well knowing Johnson is going to take care of business on his side. With the main priorities checked off the to-do list, I gave Mayfield an explosive skill position player to lean on in Brown.

And then last season, he sort of made good on some of the promises he had made early in his career with Miami before the ACL [injury].”

On one hand, Foles is the only Eagles Super Bowl MVP in franchise history. There’s literally a statue of him right outside Lincoln Finacial Field! On the other hand, he just doesn’t have the longevity (BDN jokes aside) that other players boast. Every Eagles retired number holder save for Jerome Brown — who tragically died before his sixth season in Philly — has played at least seven seasons and an average of just over 10 with the Birds. Foles has only logged five. If you go by games played, Foles’ 40 in Philly fall way short of the next closest mark of 76 and the average of 119. Methinks the Eagles should keep No. 9 on ice for some time, like they have with No. 12, but not officially retire it.

Eagles rookie NFL player comparisons: Quez Watkins - PhillyVoice
Johnny Knox serves as an example of a Day 3 (fifth round) speed guy from a smaller school (Abilene Christian) who contributed immediately. Watkins, a Day 3 guy coming from Southern Mississippi, won’t be expected to make an impact in the regular offense as a rookie, but it can happen.

1. Malcolm Jenkins - 2014. It was honestly hard putting anyone over Foles but Jenkins belongs here. Remember when everyone wanted the Eagles to sign Jairus Byrd in 2014? Phew. The Eagles got this one right. Jenkins arrived in Philadelphia after spending his first five years in New Orleans for the Saints, who drafted him in the first round back in 2009. His original deal in Philly was three years, $15.5 million. In his six years with the Eagles, Jenkins played in every game and damn near played every snap on defense and added a bunch on special teams. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and the unquestioned leader of the Eagles defense. He played safety, corner, nickel and linebacker. It’s almost hard to quantify what he meant to the Eagles during his time in Philadelphia and what he meant to the team as it won its first-ever Super Bowl title.

It’s time for second-year man Andre Dillard to step up at left tackle after he started three games there last season. And Greg Ward was sure handed and productive with Agholor injured late in 2019, so he projects as the first man in line to win the job in the slot. But he’ll have competition as the Eagles used the draft weekend to select three receivers and add a fourth, Marquise Goodwin, in a trade with the 49ers. Ward could win the job, for sure. So could first-round draft pick Jalen Reagor, or maybe fellow draftees John Hightower and Quez Watkins. The Eagles have options, and that’s a good thing.

Hackenberg had no success in the NFL. The 2016 second-round pick never even played in a single regular-season game. He played for the Memphis Express of the AAF in 2019, but he was benched in his third game after throwing no touchdown passes and three interceptions. Tim Tebow, who actually played in the NFL and won a playoff game with the Broncos at the end of the 2011 season, turned to baseball several years ago. He last played in the NFL with the Jets, in 2012.

Last year, Cooper’s five lowest “passer rating when targeted” scores were all games on the road. The Cowboys lost four of those five games. Also, six of his seven lowest overall offensive grades came on the road. When you look deeper into the stats, his struggles on the road are mind-boggling. These road woes don’t just date back to last season. In 2018, Cooper more than doubled his receiving yards at home versus on the road, and caught all seven of his touchdowns passes in home games. Ever since he arrived in Dallas, Cooper has struggled to consistently preform on the road, and it’s holding him back from being widely recognized as a top three or four receiver in the game.

I believe that you and and anyone else who is still banging the drum to get rid of Solder this season is going to be sorely disappointed. The Giants would take a $9.5 million cap hit this season and a $6.5 million cap hit for 2021 if they simply cut him. They are not going to do that. I also don’t think anyone out there is giving up a fourth- or fifth-round pick for Solder and taking on the last two years of his four-year, $62 million deal. Also, don’t forget that Joe Judge comes from the New England Patriots, and Solder played successfully there for seven years. I think Solder is a Giant in 2020, and a starting member of the offensive line. Like it or not. Now, will that be left or right? I don’t know. There are solid arguments either way.

At long last, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued new Covid-19 pandemic guidance documents to help the public minimize risk while venturing out into public spaces. The CDC released two new guidance documents Friday. One is for individuals thinking about leaving the house to engage in activities like going to restaurants, nail salons, gyms, the bank, traveling, and hosting small gatherings like cookouts. The other lists considerations for event planners (with the disclaimer, “these considerations are meant to supplement—not replace—any state, local, territorial, or tribal health and safety laws, rules, and regulations with which gatherings must comply.”)
