Eagles center Jason Kelce on Monday night was inspired to post about the death of George Floyd and subsequent protests after hearing discussion during the Eagles’ team meeting today. In particular, Kelce said he felt an obligation to speak out after hearing DeSean Jackson’s speech to the team.

To summarize his strengths very quickly, I would say Sweat is an outstanding athlete who has rare movement skills. He uses his long arms to consistently stop offensive lineman from getting their hands on his pads and he is able to win both inside and outside to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks. He has good (not great) speed off the line but has great closing speed to finish plays. He also uses his long arms to hit quarterbacks as they are releasing the ball and slow down ball carriers. On the negative side of things, Sweat needs to work on his power and his work in the run game. He too often loses contain on misdirections and he can be moved in the run game. He is still an inconsistent pass rusher and could do with developing more power to help with his bullrush. He also has some snaps where he looks really raw and needs to clean up his technique. He is not fully developed as a pass rusher in my opinion.

Maddox is a ball hawk, as he looks to create big plays with turnovers. In the Twitter thread above, we saw the good side of that, and the bad. Maddox will have to learn when to pick his spots to be aggressive, or he’s going to see double moves all day like he did in the playoffs in Chicago. Ultimately, we didn’t see a ton of Maddox in man coverage. It was mostly zone in the games he started on the outside. It would seemingly be foolish to acquire an alpha CB in Slay, just to have him play zone, so the bet here is that Maddox will get more man reps on the outside in 2020 than he has in the past. Because of his speed, agility, and mirror/match skills, more man coverage should probably be a welcomed opportunity for Maddox.

Orlovsky now considers the pick “justifiable.” But Chris Simms remains skeptical. Simms, a former NFL quarterback and current NBC Sports analyst, said the pick is too “risky,” considering Roseman is now depending on wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson to stay healthy. Simms thinks that’s foolish. “I did not love either one of their first two picks in the draft this year,” Simms said of first-round receiver Jalen Reagor and Hurts. Simms questions whether Hurts can ever become a productive NFL quarterback — because he lacks passing instincts, and “doesn’t really want to throw” — even though he won big at Alabama and Oklahoma.

And, as Sherman saw it, there was another breakthrough over the weekend that was significant. First, Eagles QB Carson Wentz said something. Then Bengals QB Joe Burrow said something. So too did Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence and new Cowboys QB Andy Dalton. All those guys are white, and all could’ve kept quiet in the face of something like this, like quarterbacks routinely have in the past. But they didn’t. As to the importance of that, I didn’t even have to ask Sherman to go there. He went on his own, volunteering his feelings on the gravity of their words.

2. Jason Peters, Left Tackle. Even thought Peters is 38 I have been surprised that he remains available. He has still played at a high level for years and it is doubtful that he would be that expensive- he played last year for $6 million. Peters come with injury risk having missed 12 games in the last three seasons but if healthy there is no reason to think he would not be dominant. Peters likely does not want to play for a team not expected to contend for a Super Bowl which may be why he and the Browns have not been a match. Maybe he will just wait until the right situation comes across and if it does not just retire.

So what can we expect the outcome to be between the Giants and Eagles? Unfortunately for New York, I think the losing streak will continue. When the two teams first meet in Week 7, the Eagles will have just played the 49ers, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. The matchup against New York will be a must-win, manageable game after three challenging weeks. The Giants have a better shot at a win in the Week 10 matchup because the game is at MetLife but Philly will be fresh off of a bye week and ready to play. Unless the Giants can mount a upset, the losing streak against Philadelphia will likely continue into another season.

Instead, they allowed Carson Wentz to convert a third down—for the second time on this drive. This eight-minute drive resulted in a touchdown and left the Bills with just over six minutes to score 17.
