When the Lions return to the practice field, what should you be watching for?
With the Detroit Lions closing out their offseason program this week, there is basically nothing left on the NFL schedule between now and training camp. Obviously, the fate of training camp is still very much up in the air given the continually spreading of the coronavirus, but, for now, let’s put those worries aside.
If all continues as planned, training camp with we be underway just over a month from now, and our long wait this offseason will be over. The 2020 Detroit Lions will take the field for the first time—albeit the practice field—and we’ll have some actual things to analyze.
And there are plenty of interesting storylines to follow once the Lions start practicing. Who will win the starting guard jobs? How will Jamal Agnew’s transition to wide receiver work out? How long will it take for Jeff Okudah to start looking like the third overall pick in the NFL Draft? What will Detroit do with their crowded backfield?
So today’s Question of the Day is:
What will be the most exciting Lions training camp battle?
Personally, I’m very interested in how the Lions backfield will play out. Obviously, D’Andre Swift and Kerryon Johnson will be the top two backs on the team, but anything beyond that remains up for grabs. Bo Scarbrough, Ty Johnson, and Jason Huntley could all be fighting for one, two or even three spots. With Jamal Agnew now on offense, too, it could threaten an additional roster spot in the backfield due to his special teams skills.
To be honest, I don’t really have a clue what the Lions will do here. It seems like they have an abundance of potential talent, but I’m not sure it would be wise to use so many roster spots to keep everyone around.
So when camp (hopefully) opens in a month, that’s where I’ll be focused.
