Sources: No talks scheduled between Dak Prescott, Cowboys - Todd Archer, ESPN
We’ve seen the Cowboys make last-minute signings before, but this isn’t looking good.
Despite Wednesday’s deadline to sign Dak Prescott to a long-term deal, there are no scheduled talks between the Dallas Cowboys and the quarterback’s agent, Todd France, according to multiple sources.
While things can change quickly with a simple phone call, there was expected to be more urgency in getting a deal done that would lock Prescott in for the long term while making the quarterback one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
The biggest hang-up in the negotiations has been the length of the contract. The Cowboys have offered Prescott five-year deals, while France has countered with four-year options.
Situation could change before July 15 deadline but a source said Sunday afternoon Cowboys are not close to reaching a multi-year contract with QB Dak Prescott. He would enter 2020 season on $31.4M franchise tag if no deal by deadline.

Agent: Cowboys’ Dak Prescott ‘In the Best Situation of Anyone’ on Franchise Tag - Timothy Rapp, Bleacher Report
Prescott can play under that tag while raising his price with a good season.
“I don’t love the franchise tag, but I would love to be Dak Prescott,” the unnamed agent told Ben Standig of The Athletic. “I think he’s in the best situation of anyone.”
Another agent pointed out that it wasn’t such a great situation for the Cowboys, however.
“Not getting a long-term deal done with Dak Prescott. Big miss for Dallas,” the agent said.
The major blunder for Dallas is that Patrick Mahomes completely reshaped the quarterback market this offseason, signing a record-setting 10-year, $503 million deal with up to $477 million in guaranteed-money mechanisms.
Mahomes has already been league MVP and won a Super Bowl, so he’s on a unique trajectory so early in his career. But his deal will also have major ramifications for the quarterback market going forward, a fact that won’t be lost on Prescott or his agent.

The way this is playing out it has to be about something more than years.
While for Mahomes, this means he just became a very wealthy man, what does this mean for Dak Prescott? Specifically, in terms of actual figures, that’s yet to be determined as we really don’t know what he was asking for exactly, in terms of overall and yearly figures.
The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott have been unable to agree to a deal for some time now. Patrick Mahomes just obliterated all those excuses though.
In the grand scheme of things though, it means that the waiting game is all but over and it would be best to go ahead and get a deal done already. Whatever the numbers were before Mahomes’ deal, throw them out of the window, as this is the comparative number from which that new figure will be determined.
There won’t be any further fishing or asking of the questions that go “what is Dak Prescott’s value”, because none of that matters anymore. In professional sports, you don’t get what you are worth unless you are the very best or one of the few very best at your position or in your sport. In sports, you get what the market dictates. Mahomes, the dictator in chief in this scenario, just saw to it that the market is a robust one.

Randy Gregory’s return from an indefinite suspension remains in limbo as training camp approaches, but there is some hope the Dallas Cowboys defensive end can be involved with the organization in some fashion, according to sources. Gregory’s application for reinstatement has not been denied by the league, but he has not been cleared to return either. He started the reinstatement process earlier in the offseason.

The NFC East is always one of the craziest divisions, this season will be no different.
2. Mike McCarthy has a smooth transition to Dallas
Easily the biggest change in the offseason for Dallas came in the coaching scene. Jason Garrett’s long overdue exit came to be, making way for Mike McCarthy to take the reins in Dallas.
With a championship pedigree behind him, many Cowboys fans are salivating at having McCarthy in charge of the pursuit of a Lombardi Trophy. Others saw McCarthy as a safe choice, choosing to focus on his sudden decline rather than success in Green Bay.
Either way, Dallas needs a smooth transition of power if they expect to topple the Eagles in the NFC East, who have a stable and proven coach at the helm in Doug Pederson.
The transition becomes paramount in an offseason unlike any other, when training time and access to players has become more difficult than ever before. There is a good chance McCarthy is yet to meet any of his offseason accusations outside of a virtual screen. The absence of preseason, the best time for a coach to evaluate his players, only creates more hiccups for a new coach this season.

When Jeff Heath signed with the Raiders in March, the Cowboys lost a veteran leader who had seemingly earned the unilateral respect of the Jason Garrett coaching staff. In short time, Mike McCarthy replaced him with a safety who had previously earned his trust.
HaHa Clinton-Dix, who signed a one-year deal in Dallas, will bring his own veteran presence to the Cowboys’ locker room. The 27-year-old spent four of his six seasons in Green Bay with McCarthy, who drafted him out of Alabama. Last season, he signed a one-year deal in Chicago where he started 16 games. Over his career, Clinton-Dix has 522 tackles and 16 interceptions.
The expectations for the Cowboys’ offense will be high, and the defense will need to hold up its end of the bargain. In a secondary with a number of intriguing young players, McCarthy clearly felt that Clinton-Dix can be depended on to start at safety without being considered a weak link. Clinton-Dix has given up some big plays over the course of his career, but he’s also shown pretty tremendous ball skills over that span, and the Cowboys have at times seemed starved for turnovers over the past few seasons.
McCarthy also brought on another former member of his Packers’ secondary to lead the unit. Former Pro Bowl cornerback Al Harris will serve as secondary coach under defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. With the challenges faced due to various COVID-19 restrictions, it’s set to be a particularly tough year to implement new faces. It’s certainly helpful when some of those new faces in the coaching staff and even players are familiar with the man in charge and how he conducts his team.

It would be hard to find another team, wait there is one team I can think of.
When it comes to offensive personnel, the Dallas Cowboys have the weapons at their disposal to unseat the Kansas City Chiefs as arguably the most diverse and dangerous offense in the entire league. I’d give the Cowboys the slight advantage at WR and running back for that matter, but still the Chiefs win out at TE because of Travis Kelce. Blake Jarwin could potentially help close that gap though.
Blake Jarwin is expected to take over as the starter after receiving a contract extension this offseason from the Cowboys. Knowing how he will handle his new starting gig is a little bit of an unknown right now, but the flashes we’ve seen from him over the past two years are intriguing. The question is though, will he be good enough to vault the Cowboys aerial attack over the Chiefs?
I have no doubts Blake Jarwin will be an effective receiving threat for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 if they play to his strengths. He is more of a move TE and should be utilized as such in order to capitalize on his talent. If that happens, there’s no reason why the Cowboys can’t have the most lethal aerial attack this season.
