Happy Sunday. We’re nearly two weeks away from the start of training camp buuuuut nobody knows if there will actually be a training camp.
49ers’ George Kittle again follows Jimmy Garoppolo jokes with praise

It was fun seeing him out there again,” Kittle said. ”It was fun to catch from him. I’ve been in Nashville with [49ers backup QB C.J. Beathard], so it’s been awesome to have a Niners quarterback throwing me the ball. But being able to catch from Jimmy and Nick again was definitely awesome. Jimmy’s hummin’, and it’s just fun to see.”
I’m not mad at San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert for requesting a trade this week after the team didn’t oblige when he asked for a raise, but I understand why his request for higher compensation is falling on deaf ears. I respect Mostert’s talents as a tough, hard-nosed, downhill runner, but I have to point out that we’ve seen a number of pedestrian runners (SEE: Alfred Morris and Steve Slaton) also produce at an exceptional level as RB1s in this scheme, which is designed to help straight-line runners with no-nonsense running styles succeed. Mostert might believe he deserves a raise based on his expected ascension up the depth chart heading into the 2020 season, but the 49ers should hold firm and make the running back prove his value before adding some money to his deal or trading him away, barring an offer they can’t refuse from another team.
Add Deebo Samuel to the list of 49ers who want an upgrade at safety. The 49ers’ second-year wide receiver tagged Adams in a post to his Instagram story, telling him to “come on the gang.”
Samuel is the second 49er to actively try and recruit Adams — who requested a trade from the Jets earlier this offseason. Left tackle Trent Williams tagged Adams in an Instagram photo of the offensive lineman signing his restructured contract with the 49ers. The tag was located on the 49ers logo on Williams’ hat.
This isn’t the first time 49ers players have gotten active on social media to recruit a player seeking a trade. Antonio Brown was a popular target for 49ers players, past and present, during his bid to get traded out of Pittsburgh. In that situation, the social media activity didn’t matter. General manager John Lynch said the 49ers never kicked tires on the receiver.
Adams may not need the additional luring. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the 49ers were one of seven teams Adams wanted to play for. San Francisco’s pass rush and Super Bowl run last year likely already worked as strong recruitment tools.
Unfortunately for Samuel, Williams and any other 49ers who want to share a uniform with Adams, the decision isn’t ultimately up to the safety. While he asked for a trade and has a list of teams he’d like to play for — the Jets have made no indication they’re willing to deal the former No. 6 overall pick. Additionally, they won’t be inclined to acquiesce to Adams’ list of preferred teams if a club not on that list gives them the best offer in a trade package.
Some media have speculated the Jets covet 49ers right tackle Mike McGlinchey. But this offseason, the Jets spent their first-round pick on left tackle Mekhi Becton, and gave a three-year, $27.3 million contract to right tackle George Fant. Those two have to start — the Jets invested too much in them to park either one on the bench. So where does McGlinchey figure in? Teams don’t rotate offensive tackles.
But they certainly rotate running backs.
Mostert seems like a better fit for the Jets than McGlinchey. Mostert can split carries with Le’Veon Bell, who used to be great but averaged just 3.2 yards per carry last season and hasn’t averaged more than 4 yards per carry since 2016. Sharing a workload with Mostert might revive Bell’s career.
The 49ers could offer the Jets Mostert, Jaquiski Tartt and a first-round draft pick for Adams. Mostert and Tartt each probably are worth third-round picks. And the Jets have $24.4 million in cap space, so they can afford to give Mostert a raise and also pay Tartt, who would replace Adams in their secondary.
