On Monday, EA Sports announced the player ratings for the Top-10 quarterbacks in Madden 21 - the newest rendition of the popular video game set to be released on August 25.
Lamar Jackson, this year’s cover athlete, is the third highest-rated QB in the game with an overall rating of 94. Jackson trails only Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson, while ranking one overall point better than Drew Brees and four points higher than Tom Brady.

At the outset of Madden 20, Jackson’s overall was only 76 - so his new and updated rating of 94 overall represents a substantial increase. It reflects the second-year jump that Jackson made on the field last season, running away with league MVP honors and putting forth a historical campaign.
Even before emerging as one of the highest-rated quarterbacks in Madden, though, Jackson’s running ability and athleticism made him arguably the most popular and fun player for users to play with. That won’t change in Madden 21, especially now that his overall is in the mid-90s.
Looking more closely at some specific attributes, Jackson is the fastest quarterback in the game with a speed rating of 96 and his throw power (92) is tied with Joe Flacco and Justin Herbert for eight-best among all signal-callers.

Cover athletes are usually given generous ratings, but it’s hard to dispute Jackson’s high attributes as being anything other than well-deserved. Now we just have to hope that he can avoid the dreaded “Madden Curse” . . .
What are your thoughts on these player ratings? Do you think Lamar Jackson’s ratings are too high, too low, or just right?
