Former Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins says DeSean Jackson’s anti-Semitic social media posts were “wrong” and a distraction from the “Black Lives Matter” movement. Jenkins, who has been a loud voice for equality in Philadelphia, took to Instagram on Friday to denounce the posts made by Jackson, which included an erroneous quote attributed to Adolf Hitler. Jenkins said the following in the video: “We got to stay focused. All of this back and forth that’s going on right now is a distraction. Comments were made, and they were wrong. Allow those who were impacted by them to voice their grievances, but we got to stay focused because Breonna Taylor’s killers are still not arrested. We’re still fighting for justice, we got a lot of work to do, and this ain’t it. Stay focused.”

I don’t think that’s going to be well received, specifically by a number of Jewish people who found DeSean Jackson’s fake Hitler quote and Louis Farrakhan praise to be offensive. Jenkins comes across here as somewhat dismissive of the topic at hand, trying to turn this into a Black Lives Matter message (stay focused), when the entire controversy centers on a handful of anti-semitic posts made by a former teammate. For him to sit there and call the “back and forth” a “distraction” while writing that “Jewish people aren’t our problem” is tone deaf at best, and disrespectful at worst.

Much has been said and written about Desean Jackson since his ill-fated Instagram posts from this past Monday. I don’t need to repeat what was said, because the comments were personally reprehensible tome and hurtful to many. Desean has apologized several times for these comments and has said initially that they were misconstrued and that he “didn’t intend any harm or hatred” towards Jews. Against the backdrop of a deadly pandemic and worldwide protests in the streets in part against systemic racial injustice, Desean Jackson made his despicable comments. Words matter. Jews have had to endure anti-Semitism for centuries. This is nothing new to us. Anti-Semitic comments now appear in the mainstream and violence against Jews is commonplace. Making statements like the ones made by Desean the other day normalize these types of stereotypes, which is dangerous to our already fragile society. But I don’t single out Desean any more than others who are on social media and write hateful, racist, and threatening comments about people they don’t know based on the color of their skin, distinguishing features, political leanings, religion or their surnames. It’s time for all of us to be much kinder to one another, and to put ourselves in our neighbor’s shoes for just a moment. The Philadelphia Eagles got it mostly right this week when they called DeSean Jackson’s anti-Semitic social media posts “offensive, harmful and absolutely appalling.” The Eagles, however, left out an important thought, one that provides an educational moment at a time when athletes at all levels are speaking up about social justice as never before. The posts were dangerously uninformed. They demonstrated not only a lack of understanding of what it means to be anti-Semitic but also a severe level of naivete about dark areas of the internet from which he and other social media users sometimes draw their content. In attempting to amplify what he interpreted as an example of Black subjugation, as he later suggested he was trying to do, Jackson instead elevated a fabricated quote attributed to Adolf Hitler and thus promoted a group that was connected to a deadly shooting rampage in a kosher market last year in Jersey City, New Jersey.

ESPN’s Mike Clay projects Sanders to log around 17.4 carries per game. I was thinking Sanders will at least be around the 15 mark. Really, he’s too good not for the Eagles to get the ball into his hands. And we’ve really only talked about Sanders as a runner thus far. He’s obviously a pass-catching weapon as well. In theory, the field-stretching speed that the Eagles are adding to their offense should clear up space for Sanders. It’ll be harder for teams to key in on him in the passing game like they could when he was arguably (and sadly) the Eagles’ best deep threat for a good portion of the 2019 season. Really excited to see Sanders’ sophomore season. He’s going to make a real big leap. And it’ll start with a camp where he looks ready for that next step.

Wentz is very good. And with some new weapons around him in 2020, he should be even better. Remember, by the end of the 2019 season, he was throwing to a bunch of guys who began the season on the practice squad. According to ProFootballFocus, Wentz had 32 of his passes dropped last season, the third-highest total in the league. There are still plenty of questions about his receivers and he’ll have at least two new starters on the offensive line. But the overall offense around Wentz in 2020 should be better. And even if it isn’t, Wentz proved last season that he has the ability to put the team on his back and lead them to victory. He led the Eagles on four game-winning drives in 2019; he had four in his first three seasons.

For most NFL teams, the role of chaplain is a significant one. They are often around the team, offering weekly services and individual guidance. The addition of Cunningham, 57, will be positive for the Raiders. He is a good man and he was a great player. He will be a valuable resource for players, especially quarterback Derek Carr. He is highly spiritual and will be able to connect with Cunningham both on a religious level and as an NFL quarterbacks.

For any other position, the Cowboys would just replace the player, but they can’t let their quarterback leave. They’ll be in a precarious position if they don’t get a deal done by Wednesday, forced to pick between paying Prescott even more money next season or take a hard look at backup quarterback Andy Dalton. Owner Jerry Jones prefers paying Dak over praying for Dalton, so Prescott is the one with leverage. It’s quite the role reversal after Prescott made less than $5 million total in four years as the most important player for the most valuable sports franchise on earth. Now he is likely going to make more than Mahomes in the short term. Dak is the Champion of the Chunky Contract.

An explosive report in the Daily News includes allegations that, if true, would deepen the legal holes that New York Giants cornerback Deandre Baker and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar are in after they were charged in a May 13 armed robbery in Miramar, Fla. The report, citing a warrant obtained by the Daily News from the Broward County (Fla.) Clerk of Courts, alleges a payoff of alleged victims to get them to change statements and a subsequent cover-up.

An NFL source was breaking down the league’s proposal to draw back player salaries as much as 35 percent to help manage revenue losses in 2020. Framing it as an ask that was just the tip of the iceberg, the source said it foreshadowed a coming fight that will put the NFL and players’ union into deeply dug trenches and possibly endanger the start of the season in September. Finally, the source spelled out the revenue loss and lack of a player giveback in one sentence. “It’s a major problem that isn’t going away,” the source told Yahoo Sports on Thursday. “One way or the other, it’s going to have to be bargained out [between the league and the union] if this is going to work.” A major problem that isn’t going away. This is the NFL behind the scenes right now. As the league puts forth ancillary — and somewhat nonsensical — protocols like not being able to do a postgame jersey swap, there are bigger fish to fry in the next few weeks. And the space to get this work done is shrinking to the point that it’s alarming players.
