NFL games on Saturday?!
On Monday, word came down that the Big 10 and the Mountain West conferences canceled their 2020 college football seasons. While it remains to be seen what the ACC, SEC, PAC-12 and rogue Big 10 teams (Nebraska, Iowa, and Ohio) may do to try to preserve a football season, it’s becoming increasingly clear that college football Saturdays are going to look a lot different.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the NFL is keeping an eye on these conference cancellations and may look to take advantage of the dearth of sports programming featured on Saturdays.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL likely will move games from Sundays to Saturday, if college football doesn’t proceed this season. It’s unclear whether the games would be broadcast, streamed, or distributed on a pay-per-view basis, but the league likely would backfill the vacant Saturday windows with NFL content.
Ordinarily, moving games would be a cause for major fan outcry, but with it becoming increasingly clear that fans likely won’t attend games, it really doesn’t matter when the games are played. Rest assured, there will be no stadium conflicts with concerts and the like, because everything is canceled.
So, will there be football fatigue this season? Could featuring NFL football on Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays be too much of a good thing?
No. No, it’s not.
