We are on to the second week of camp. Lots of links to peruse on this Monday morning. Read on for today’s edition of Falcoholinks.
Player Profiles
Another week, another batch of player evaluations ahead of the 2020 NFL season. We’ve covered the projected starters, and now we key in on the depth pieces that have the potential to make an impact on the field.
The Falcons signed Vanderbilt tight end Jared Pinkney as an undrafted free agent, and among the current UDFAs, Pinkney has a real shot at cracking the roster. A developmental prospect who could become an asset in both receiving and blocking, Pinkney has TE2 upside.
Tight end Khari Lee also has an elevated chance of landing on the final 53. A recent addition via the defunct XFL’s D.C Defenders. Lee has several years of NFL experience, and excels in blocking roles.
For both Jared Pinkney and Khari Lee, the modified offseason will certainly come into play as both try to make the active roster.
Wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, the former first-round pick out of Ole Miss has been a non-factor in the NFL so far in his career, but he’s looking for a change of scenery to finally harness his full potential. It’s a low-risk, high-reward gamble on the part of the Falcons.
Olamide Zaccheaus is also angling for one of those depth spots at wide receiver, and he certainly impressed in limited action last season.
J.J. Wilcox returns
J.J. Wilcox’s 2019 debut with the Atlanta Falcons ended just as quickly as it began, as he suffered a torn ACL during training camp. He’s getting another chance in Atlanta, as he was signed last week to add some depth to the safety spot.
COVID contingency
Playing football during the coronavirus pandemic comes with some obvious challenges, and the Falcons are doing their level best to have contingency plans in place should players or coaches get sick.
Dan Quinn announced that in the event he was diagnosed with COVID-19, assistant head coach and linebackers coach Jeff Ulbrich would assume the role of head coach.

With the ongoing pandemic and the fight for social justice and change setting the backdrop for the coming NFL season, it has been an offseason unlike any other. Most important defensive players
Adnan Ikic continues counting down the most important players on defense for the coming season, and No. 4 is a new addition who has lofty expectations on his shoulders right off the bat.
