The Jaguars have taken major hits to their defensive line as of late, Aaron Lynch retires.
Jaguars defensive lineman Aaron Lynch is set to retire, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Later, the team stated Lynch will be placed on the Jaguars’ reserve/retired list tomorrow morning. There has been no statement from Lynch as of right now.

Earlier today, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone stated this in regards to Lynch’s absence from practice:
“You know, the other guy, [DE/OLB] Aaron Lynch, which I excused, he’s taking care of something personally,” Marrone said on Monday. “So he’s dealing with that and we’ll see where that is as we go forward, so we’re in communication with him so it’s not an issue. But I just want to tell you guys, so this way I’m upfront telling you where we are with the team, who’s out there, who’s not out there.
Lynch was originally signed by the Jaguars on May 5th and has played for the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers during his time in the league. Lynch was expected to play a rotational role as a pass rusher with the Jaguars.
This news comes just a day after another free agent acquisition, DL Rodney Gunter, was forced to retire due to an enlarged aorta. Gunter has since been extended an opportunity by the Jaguars’ organization to re-join the team in some capacity, just not on the football field.
The Jaguars have now lost five defensive linemen who have opted not to play this year, or have been injured, including Lynch, Gunter, Lerentee McCray, Al Woods and Dontavius Russell (reserve/injured). Both Woods and McCray opted out of this season due to concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic.
