Nick Chubb being evaluated for a concussion

NFL: Cleveland Browns-Training Camp Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Browns running back left Monday’s practice after being hit high by linebacker Mack Wilson during a drill.

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb exited practice early on Monday and is being evaluated for a possible concussion.

Chubb was injured about midway through practice - the first the Browns have conducted in pads - when he caught a screen pass and was then hit around the shoulder area by linebacker Mack Wilson.

A trainer walked off the practice field with Chubb. As for Wilson, he was yelled at by defensive coordinator Joe Woods and then had an individual conversation with head coach Kevin Stefanski, according to cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot.

It is unknown what Stefanski said to Wilson, but it may have been a refresher on the need to practice smart, a message that Stefanski said he shared with the team on Sunday, according to clevelandbrowns.com:

“We had that conversation last night. The pace of practice should look exactly the same as it did yesterday in shells. They have to understand how to practice hard and take care of each other regardless of the dress or the attire that they are wearing.”

If he does have a concussion, Chubb will be out of practice for a while as he works his way through the various stages of the league-mandated concussion protocol.

Chubb is coming off a season where he was second in the league in rushing yards with 1,494 - the best season in franchise history by anyone other than Jim Brown - while rushing for eight touchdowns and averaging five yards per carry.
