The Jets added to their list of injuries at Sunday’s practice at MetLife Stadium.
Safety Marcus Maye was dealing with an apparent groin injury.
S Marcus Maye on the sideline with no helmet. Appears to be moving gingerly. Now that would be a tough blow to the defense. #Jets

Rookie running back La’Mical Perine also suffered an injury.

Head coach Adam Gase provided an update after practice.
#Jets say Perine hurt his ankle. They need to evaluate that, Gase said. He’ll get an MRI.

Marcus Maye has a calf issue. He wanted to keep practicing. But Gase said “there was no way” they’d let him go as soon as he said he felt something.
Gase also provided an update on wide receiver Jeff Smith who hurt his shoulder at a practice earlier this weekend.
WR Jeff Smith (shoulder) is expected to miss a couple of weeks according to Jets HC Adam Gase.

Of these injuries, Maye’s stands out as significant. While he couldn’t reasonably be expected to replace Jamal Adams’ production there has been plenty of buzz that he is likely to take on many of Adams’ responsibilities within Gregg Williams’ defense. Maye still has two weeks before to opener to recover and hopefully get back into the lineup.
Perine projected as a backup. I think it would be surprising for him to play a major role in the offense as a rookie, but the Jets certainly would like to work with him in practice to develop his game.
