New season, new Pats Pulpit

The times they are a-changin’.

Hey everyone!

First of all, on behalf of all the staff here at Pats Pulpit, thank you so much for a) reading this and b) spending your time on this here website. We put in a lot to bring you what we hope is the best Patriots coverage you can find, and are proud of the community that we have created over the past [checks calendar] 15 years!?

Change is inevitable over such long a time-frame, and there is some on the horizon as you may have heard: comment sections all across SB Nation’s NFL sites will get a makeover. Ours here at Pats Pulpit will go live on Thursday, August 6. You can see this post as a heads-up, if you will.

As is the case with everything in life (or at least the internet) some changes will be perceived as positive, some as negative. At the bare minimum, there will be a lot of getting used to especially as the comment section continues to evolve over the coming weeks to be fully functional once the regular season gets kicked off next month. Eventually, the positives should outweigh the negatives that those changes bring and in turn hopefully create a better user experience.

Because, let’s face it, for as much as we have all gotten used to the old comment section, there have been some issues. Part of the problem is that its foundation was built in what was essentially the dark ages for online communication. This created some issues both on the back end, and for you, the commenters (mobile, anyone?). The changes coming to the commenting system are aimed at addressing them both.

But what does all of this mean for you in particular?

Andrew Losowsky, who is the head of Coral, the new commenting system we will be implementing, answered some questions in this FAQs post over at SB Nation’s flagship site — from new features to some problems that will still be worked through.

Besides what Andrew is mentioning, there are basically just two more things you need to know:

1. This is a work in progress, as noted above, which means that the commenting system is pretty much like the Patriots’ roster at this moment: not a finished product; and b) that your feedback in the form of comments is immensely important.
2. In case there are any issues with your account after the change, make sure to shoot an email to patspulpit@sbnation.com so we can take care of it.

I know change is not always easy, especially when it touches on something you have grown used to (trust me: I hated the new story editor when it was introduced a few years back, now I don’t know how I ever worked with the old one). That said, change can also bring a lot of positive and that is certainly something that’s in high demand these days.

All in all, it seem as if change continues to be the theme of this year’s off-season for us here at Pats Pulpit. But we’re happy and grateful we can all live through this alongside each other.
