“They really have been standouts the last couple of days,” Sean McVay says

It’s not ideal to have a starter out during training camp, especially without a real injury return timeline, but it does create chances for young players.

That scenario is occurring at the Rams’ training camp with safety Taylor Rapp recovering from a knee injury. On Wednesday, Rams coach Sean McVay said he won’t know just how serious Rapp’s injury is until next week.

That’s leaves Rapp’s return up in the air and could potentially mean he will miss more time beyond next week, which is not ideal with the Rams’ season opener against the Dallas Cowboys at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 13.

However, with Rapp out, the Rams are getting closer looks at rookies Terrell Burgess and Jordan Fuller at safety. Both are shining. In fact, McVay sung their praises this week for being training camp standouts.

Fuller, a sixth-round pick from Ohio State, has already shown he’s a ball hawk.

Burgess, a third-round pick from Utah, has flashed with his overall knowledge of the defense and his overall game.

If both of these rookies continue to progress, expect them to be part of the defense this season. With Rapp currently injured and John Johnson a potential free agent next year, the Rams are already feeling comfortable with the future at safety in the form of Burgess and Fuller.
