Tyler Gauthier entered the NFL as part of New England’s 2019 undrafted class.

The New England Patriots will turn to a familiar face to fill the final open spot on the 80-man roster.

Center Tyler Gauthier, who had signed with the organization as part of the 2019 undrafted class, visited along with running back Lamar Miller on Monday and is also expected to sign, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

The transaction is pending Covid-19 testing and a physical examination.

Gauthier played 141 offensive snaps for the Patriots during his rookie preseason and returned on the practice squad after being drafted by the XFL’s St. Louis BattleHawks in October. The Miami Hurricanes product remained in New England until agreeing to join the active roster of the Jacksonville Jaguars in December.

The Jaguars waived Gauthier over weekend and the 23-year-old passed through unclaimed. He did not check into a game for Jacksonville to close his first NFL regular season.

As the opt-out deadline passed, New England stood with eight openings through the initial stages of training camp. Those openings began to be filled by quarterback Brian Lewerke, wide receivers Will Hastings and Isaiah Zuber, as well as acquired cornerback Michael Jackson.

Tight end Jordan Leggett, defensive tackle Darius Kilgo and the aforementioned Miller have reportedly followed after visits.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Gauthier is now on track to do the same.
