Sean McVay is “hopeful” that RB Darrell Henderson is ready for opener

NFL: Los Angeles Rams-Training Camp Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Will Cam Akers end up starting Week 1?

LA Rams running back Darrell Henderson was pulled from Saturday night’s scrimmage at SoFi Stadium with an injury and did not return. Rams head coach Sean McVay addressed Henderson’s injury on Sunday, calling it a mild hamstring pull and that he is hopeful for Henderson to be available to play by Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

That would give Henderson another three weeks to rest and recuperate, but also three weeks for Malcolm Brown and Cam Akers to prove they should be playing with the ones.

Henderson struggled to make an impact after being a third round pick in 2019 and then ended the season inactive because of a high ankle sprain that required surgery. The Rams drafted Akers in the second round and are expected to share the ball in the backfield until somebody steps up or steps down. With Henderson missing valuable practices and in all likelihood next Saturday’s second scrimmage, Akers and Brown will have their own opportunities to prove to be RB1 for LA this season.

The Rams host the Cowboys on Sunday, September 13 at 5:20 PM PT on NBC.
