The Panthers added some depth to their defensive line with a waiver move.
The Carolina Panthers have claimed defensive tackle Bruce Hector off waivers and waived wide receiver TreVontae Hights in a corresponding move, according to the team’s website.
Here’s a brief synopsis of Hector’s career from the team’s report of the transaction:
Hector originally signed with Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent out of South Florida in 2018. He appeared in eight games as a rookie, playing 82 snaps in a rotational role. After he was traded to the [Arizona] Cardinals in mid-August 2019, Arizona cut Hector just before the start of the regular season. He eventually landed back with the [Philadelphia] Eagles, appearing in three games for the club last season.
Hector was most likely brought in to be a camp body, and his odds to make the final 53-man roster are low due to the lack of a preseason where he would have a chance to prove himself, but you never know — he might find a spot on the final roster after all. Only time will tell.
After making the corresponding move to waive Hights, the Panthers’ roster stands at 80 players, so no other roster moves will be necessary at this time.
