Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve made it to football
After one of the strangest offseasons in a long time, we have finally made it back to having NFL football on Sunday.
Since the 2019 season ended approximately five years ago. . .or so it seems. . .a lot has changed across the NFL landscape and, obviously, the world outside of the NFL. We’ll finally get to see the results of some of those changes from an empty U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon, when your Minnesota Vikings play host to their NFC North rivals, the Green Bay Packers.
Both of these teams made the playoffs in 2019, with the Packers winning the NFC North and the Vikings nabbing a Wild Card spot. Their seasons both ended in the same manner, however. . .with a 17-point playoff loss to the NFC Champions, the San Francisco 49ers. The Vikings lost to San Francisco 27-10 in the Divisional Round, while the Packers were down 21-0 before they got off the bus in a 37-20 NFC Championship Game defeat.
The Vikings will look significantly different than they did the last time these two teams met. The Packers won’t have to contend with Stefon Diggs, but they will have to deal with a healthy Dalvin Cook, who lit up the Packers in last year’s matchup at Lambeau Field in Week 2. Cook missed the game at U.S. Bank Stadium last year with a shoulder injury.
This will be the first time that the Vikings have opened a season by hosting the Packers. They’ve played several season openers at Lambeau Field before, but this will be the first time these two teams open the year against each other in Minneapolis.
Kickoff for this one is scheduled for noon Central time on Sunday, and will be aired on FOX. All of our stories about this one will be in one place for you to track more easily.
