OBJ undergoes surgery for torn ACL

NFL: Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals Joseph Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns wide receiver expected to make a recovery in time for the 2021 season.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. underwent surgery on Tuesday for his torn ACL.

The team released a statement on Tuesday afternoon deeming the surgery a success:

The statement reads:

Odell Beckham Jr. underwent successful surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The surgery was performed early today by Dr. James Andrews at the Andrews Institute for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Pensacola, Florida. Beckham is expected to be ready for the 2020 season.

Beckham’s mother, Heather Van Norman, posted a photograph on her Instagram account with her son and Dr. Andrews following the surgery, thanking Andrews and his staff for taking good care of her son:

With an expected recovery time of nine to 12 months from an ACL injury, today’s surgery puts Beckham on track to be able to rejoin the Browns in mid-August of next year at the earliest. If that holds true it keeps the possibility of him being ready for the season opener in play.

Beckham injured his left knee on Cleveland’s second offensive play of the Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals while making an awkward tackle attempt following an interception by quarterback Baker Mayfield. He finished his second season in Cleveland with 23 receptions for 319 yards and three touchdown receptions, plus a rushing touchdown.
