Justin Tuck heads group of Giants nominated for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Defensive end is in first year of eligibility

Justin Tuck headlines a group of a half-dozen Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2021 nominees who spent all or most of their careers with the New York Giants. A list of 130 nominees was announced on Wednesday.

Giants on the list include Tuck, Chris Snee, Tiki Barber, Jeremy Shockey, Sean Landeta and Jeff Feagles. This is Tuck’s first year of eligibility.

Three players who were briefly Giants — Herschel Walker (1995), tackle Lomas Brown (2000-01) and running back/return specialist Brian Mitchell (2003) — were also nominated.

The list of modern-era nominees will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November and to 15 finalists in January. Eighteen Finalists will be presented to the full 48-member Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee during its annual meeting on “Selection Saturday,” the day before Super Bowl LV. The Finalists will consist of 15 players from the list of 130 announced today, plus the recently named Senior Finalist, wide receiver Drew Pearson; Contributor Finalist, scout Bill Nunn; and Coach Finalist, Tom Flores.

Tuck played for the Giants from 2005-2013 after being selected in the third round of the draft out of Notre Dame. He helped the Giants win two Super Bowls. Tuck was a two-time Pro Bowler, four-time team captain and was credited with more than 500 tackles. His 60.5 sacks are the sixth-highest total in franchise history.

Tuck also played in 10 postseason games. He had 5.5 sacks, tied with former teammate Osi Umenyiora for fourth place on the franchise’s postseason list.

Tuck spent the final two seasons of his career with the Oakland Raiders. he was inducted into the Giants’ Ring of Honor in 2016.
