Fantasy Football Streaming

Welcome back to the Primal Stream, where the bye weeks have hit in earnest, so I’m here to help you hit back with streaming options at QB, TE, and D/ST.

Week 7 brings with it four teams on a bye, taking away some significant fantasy producers. This includes Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, and Russell Wilson at quarterback, Jimmy Graham and Jared Cook at the extremely shallow tight end position, and the Seahawks, Steelers, and Packers D/ST units.

If you grabbed Baker Mayfield last week to stream, he was somewhat of a disappointment, scoring only 12.3 fantasy points (though that did beat out Jared Goff, Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Blake Bortles, Eli Manning, and Marcus Mariota among others). Here’s hoping you held on to him because his matchup with Tampa Bay couldn’t be more inviting.

Week 7 Byes:

  • Green Bay Packers
  • Oakland Raiders
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Seattle Seahawks
Streaming Fantasy Quarterbacks
Mitchell Trubisky – 41.6% Owned
Patriots at Bears

Mitchell TrubiskyLife comes at you fast! Mitch Trubsky was left for dead on the waiver wire after three weeks of uninspiring performances to start the season. Since then, he’s put up 43.5 points to be the Week 4 QB1, and 27.3 points to be Week 6’s QB5, with a Week 5 bye in between. His 9 touchdowns in that three-week span are second among all quarterbacks, despite having played in only two games.

Trubisky faces the Patriots in Week 7, and that is looking like an enticing prospect. The Patriots rank 22nd in passing yardage allowed at 1,612 yards, while their 15 passing touchdowns allowed are tied for the second-most, in front of only Atlanta and Tampa Bay with 16 each. The Patriots have been excellent in coverage, earning PFF’s second-best coverage grade at 85.2, but poor at rushing the passer, with a 61.1 pass rushing grade that ranks 27th. The Bears enter the contest with an offensive line that’s earned PFF’s third-best pass blocking grade at 87.4, while Trubisky’s 113.4 passer rating from a clean pocket is 10th among all quarterbacks with at least 60 dropbacks.

While the Bears defense boasts both the best PFF coverage grade at 89.0 and the third-best pass rushing grade at 76.4, their star pass rusher Khalil Mack may be limited with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, the Patriots have scored 38, 38, and 43 points in their last three games, and should tip the Bears’ play-calling toward the pass. Couple that with the fact that the Patriots own PFF’s third-best run defense grade at 87.1, and there’s a reasonable opportunity for Trubisky to post top-ten numbers. Trubisky faces the Jets in Week 8, which isn’t the easiest matchup, but Chicago owns the second-easiest pass defense schedule from Weeks 10-17, via sharpfootballstats.com, so he may be worth holding onto after this week’s stream.

Joe Flacco – 23.7% Owned
Saints at Ravens

Oh, hello there Joe Flacco. I see you, 18th in total fantasy points among quarterbacks, with two straight 11-point games. I also see that Flacco has faced three of the five defenses allowing the fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks in the Bills, Titans, and Browns. This week, Flacco and the Ravens welcome the New Orleans Saints, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks.

Flacco will come prepared for the Saints defense, and he’s sure to have liked what he saw on tape. New Orleans has allowed 11 passing touchdowns so far in 2018, and only eight teams have allowed more. They’ve been very good defending the run, with an 82.5 run defense grade that’s PFF’s seventh-highest, but very poor in pass coverage, with PFF’s fourth-lowest coverage grade at 54.3.

The Saints also come off of a Week 6 bye, and they’ve been a scoring juggernaut. They’re averaging 36 points scored per game, the most in the NFL. The Ravens defense has been superb, allowing the second-fewest points per game to both quarterbacks and running backs. I don’t expect the Saints to match their scoring average, but the Ravens aren’t likely to hold them back from multiple touchdowns. This could end up being a high-scoring affair, further benefitting Flacco. He should also be a useful hold after a stream this week, as he projects to have the easiest remaining pass defense schedule of any quarterback.

Streaming Fantasy Tight Ends
C.J. Ozumah – 22.5% Owned
Bengals at Kansas City

So much for Tyler Kroft’s ascension into the startable tight end ranks; he suffered a potentially season-ending foot injury in Week 6. Enter C.J. Ozumah! Ozumah was already leading the snap percentage at tight end when Tyler Eifert’s injury occurred in Week 4, 59% to Eifert’s 49%. He then dominated the snap percentage in the next two weeks at 92%. Stepping up in Week 6, Ozumah caught six of his seven targets for 54 yards, for a fantasy point total that was 14th among tight ends.

Uzomah’s only seen 17 total targets, with just one coming in the red zone, but that projects to change now that he’ll operate as the Bengals’ primary tight end. He also happens to be facing the Chiefs this week. They are allowing the third-most points per game versus tight ends (16.8) and the most total receiving yards (2,142) by a country mile.

The Bengals defense is pretty forgiving itself, allowing the third-most total yardage (2,455), and they’ll be facing one of the most dynamic and high-scoring offenses in the NFL. The Chiefs are averaging 35.8 points per game with Patrick Mahomes at the helm, and the Bengals only hope for victory will be to match them score-for-score. This matchup has an implied point total of 58.5 at MyBookie.com, the most of any game on the slate. If Uzomah does break through, he should continue to be useful in the short term, as he faces the Buccaneers in Week 8 and the Saints in Week 10 after a Week 9 bye.

Ricky Seals-Jones – 17.5% Owned
Broncos at Cardinals

I’m going back to the well here with Ricky Seals-Jones after recommending him for streaming in Week 2. Seals-Jones finally put up a respectable 11.9 fantasy points in PPR leagues against the Vikings in Week 6, 13th at the position for the week. He’s played 78% of the Cardinals’ snaps on the season and is third on the team in targets, one behind rookie Christian Kirk and six behind veteran Larry Fitzgerald.

The Cardinals face the Broncos in Week 7, who’ve shown themselves to be vulnerable to tight ends, allowing the tenth-most points per game to the position. They’ve allowed nine total touchdowns through Week 6, which is middle-of-the-pack. Seals-Jones projects to see primary coverage from safety Will Parks, who’s allowing 0.76 yards per snap in coverage (per PFF), 64th among 87 eligible safeties.

Seals-Jones could be worthy of a roster spot after Week 7 as well, as the Cardinals face the 49ers in Week 8, who are allowing the eighth-most points to tight ends.

Streaming Fantasy Defenses
Cowboys D/ST – 22.1% Owned
Redskins at Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off of an impressive win at home against the Jaguars, with the defense allowed only seven points, finishing with 12 fantasy points from the D/ST, sixth among all defenses. For the season, the Cowboys D/ST stands at 13th overall in fantasy scoring.

In Week 7, they welcome the Redskins to town for a divisional matchup that has gone entirely the Cowboys’ way for the past two seasons. The Cowboy’s greatest defensive strength from a fantasy perspective is their ability to sack the quarterback, as their 19 sacks rank ninth among defenses. The Redskins have only turned the ball over 5 times, second fewest, but they have also only 1,720 total yards, fourth fewest, and are scoring an average of 21.2 points per game, ninth fewest.

The Redskins rank 17th in their PFF pass blocking grade at 73.4, which isn’t bad, but they do face the Cowboys’ 69.4 pass rushing grade, 11th-best. Washington should be a one-week stream with a bye coming in Week 8, but they do have a positive matchup with the Titans in Week 9.

Colts D/ST – 25.7% Owned
Bills at Colts

The Colts own PFF’s 16th-ranked overall defensive grade at 73.3, which is obviously the definition of average. Their 24 total fantasy points rank just 23rd among D/STs, but they have created 10 turnovers, tied for the seventh-most. They also have 19 sacks for the season, fourth-most.

The Colts have also yet to face a really bad offense, and the Bills arrive on the schedule to break that streak. Defenses facing Buffalo are averaging a higher average fantasy point total than any other matchup. Buffalo’s 11 giveaways are tied for the fifth-most in the NFL. They’ve accumulated 1.335 total yards, second-fewest, while their 12.7 points scored per game is dead last.

The numbers above were mostly with Josh Allen at quarterback for the Bills, who was an improvement on Nathan Peterman, and they’ll be starting Derek Anderson at the position on Sunday. The Colts face the Raiders in Week 8, who allow the seventh-most points to D/ST, and if you have room on your roster through their Week 9 bye, they face the Jaguars and Titans in Weeks 10 and 11, who are allowing the 12th and third most points respectively to fantasy D/STs.

Good Luck this week!
