Giants vs. Redskins halftime score: Giants trail 7-3 as the offense flounders

Your second half open thread

The New York Giants trail the Washington Redskins 7-3 at the half.

Once again the Giants won the coin toss and elected to defer, putting their defense on the field first.

It was a predictably bad half of offense from the Giants, with the team once again failing to score once they got in the end zone. As they have all too often this season, the Giants passing game was largely limited to quick passes.

The highlight of the first half for the Giants was a big 44-yard throw and catch from Eli Manning to Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham and Saquon Barkley accounted for the majority of the Giants’ offensive yards, with Beckham racking up 80 yards receiving and Barkly with 74 total yards (27 rushing, 47 receiving).

The Giants’ defense played reasonably well after the trades of starting defensive tackle Damon Harrison and cornerback Eli Apple.

With Harrison in Detroit and Alec Ogletree injured, rookie DT B.J. Hill and third year linebacker B.J. Goodson saw extended snaps, and the two played well in their opportunities. Rookie linebacker Lorenzo Carter also saw more snaps opposite Olivier Vernon and created some pressure rushing off the edge.

The Giants will get the ball to start the second half.
