NFL Network thinks a trade is unlikely unless they’re ‘blown away.’
With the trade deadline a mere 24 hours away, the rumor mill is starting to heat up. The Detroit Lions have already made a big “buyers” move by adding Damon Harrison Sr. last week, but one NFL Network report is suggesting they may also be selling a big piece of their team.
Tom Pelissero says the Lions are “fielding calls” for a potential trade in his latest report for NFL Network:
A couple notes from The Aftermath with 24 hours until trade deadline: #Raiders still shopping veterans, including Bruce Irvin, and keep an eye on Golden Tate, though the #Lions would have to be blown away to move him. @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/nAZW6d35bQ

“I can tell you that the Lions have been fielding calls, as teams have reached out about Tate,” Pelissero said.
To be clear, Pelissero is saying that teams are inquiring about Tate, not that the Lions are actively shopping him. In fact, Pelissero says a move is unlikely before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.
“My understanding is that it’s not likely Tate gets moved unless they get blown away with an offer,” Pelissero said.
The question is what kind of offer would warrant being “blown away?” The Cowboys just traded a first-round pick for Amari Cooper, but Cooper is still on his rookie deal, is 24-years-old and is signed through 2019.
Tate, on the other hand, is 30 years old, becomes a free agent in April and will be costly to retain.
Pelissero thinks “something in the range of a mid-round draft pick” may be enough to lure the Lions into a deal, throwing out a fourth rounder as an example. However, that seems low considering the Lions could potentially get a compensatory pick around that level if Tate simply leaves for free agency next season.
Last year, we heard similar trade rumors for Eric Ebron that never materialized. At this point, it seems like these rumors will similarly fade out.
