T.J. Lang, Michael Roberts return to Detroit Lions practice

The Lions are looking a lot more healthy out of the bye week.

NFL teams are expected to come out of the bye healthier, and the Detroit Lions are following that trend as they prepare for the Miami Dolphins.

During Wednesday’s practice, the Lions saw two key players return to the field: tight end Michael Roberts and offensive guard T.J. Lang.

Roberts has been out since Week 2 after suffering an knee injury during the following week of practice. The 2017 fourth-round pick was having a slow start to the season, but he picked up his first career touchdown against the 49ers and could provide some much-needed help at the tight end position.

Lang would be a huge boost for the Lions offensive line, if he can give it a go. Against the Cowboys, Lang suffered a concussion that kept him out of the rest of the game and the following week of practice. Lang has suffered at least five concussions in his career, so the Lions may decide to take it slow with his recovery, but practicing is a big step in the league’s concussion protocol.

In addition to these returns, a couple of notable players also participated in practice, despite suffering injuries in the last game. Teez Tabor, who left Week 5’s game with a groin injury, was out there on Wednesday, as was Kerryon Johnson, who looked to suffer an ankle injury late against the Packers. Safety Tavon Wilson practiced despite missing last game, and Ezekiel Ansah continues to practice despite not playing since Week 1.

The only notable player out—besides Jamal Agnew, who was placed on IR earlier in the week—was running back Theo Riddick. Riddick was at practice—so it wasn’t an excused absence scenario—but he did not participate in any drills during the portion of practice open to the media. Update: Riddick has a knee injury per the Lions’ official Wednesday injury report.
