Nathan Peterman leads the way in a home start
The Buffalo Bills enter Sunday’s home game against the Chicago Bears on a three-game losing streak. Since Stephen Hauschka nailed a field goal as time expired to send Buffalo to a 13-12 victory over the Tennessee Titans, the Bills have been unable to muster any sort of offense. This week doesn’t figure to be any easier for the boys in blue.
With Derek Anderson (concussion) and Josh Allen (elbow) both ruled out for today’s contest, the starting quarterback duties fall squarely on the shoulders of one Nathan Peterman. The second-year man has been intercepted on 11.1% of his regular-season passing attempts in his career, and the Bears boast a strong defense that has forced 11 interceptions through 7 games this season.
Perhaps the worst part about Buffalo’s injuries at the quarterback situation is not that they force Peterman to start, but more that the Bills’ options behind Peterman are woefully inept. If Peterman were to be injured, the Bills would be forced to play Matt Barkley, who signed with the team just this week, at the most important position on the field. They may also determine that they would be better off running a version of the option with ether Logan Thomas, a former quarterback turned tight end, or newly-signed wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, who played wideout in college.
Buffalo is also missing two starters on defense, with linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (concussion) and defensive end Trent Murphy (knee) both ruled out. Buffalo will be short-handed in a difficult contest against the first-place team from the NFC North.
