The moves hint at some turnover at running back this weekend
The Buffalo Bills again filled their 53-man roster on Wednesday, signing running back Keith Ford and safety Dean Marlowe from the team’s practice squad. The team had two open roster spots after placing linebacker Matt Milano and cornerback Taron Johnson on injured reserve Tuesday.
Ford, an undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M, has a chance to see plenty of action on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. LeSean McCoy left Sunday’s loss against the New York Jets after suffering a hamstring injury in the first quarter. Chris Ivory, his replacement, seemed to re-injure his shoulder in the second half of the game. Ivory missed a game earlier in the season due to a shoulder injury. With Marcus Murphy and Patrick DiMarco the only healthy backfield options, Ford’s addition to the roster makes plenty of sense.
In the preseason, the 5’10,” 219-pound Ford carried 34 times for 134 yards, a modest 3.8 yards per carry average. He also caught four passes for 26 yards in exhibition action. Ford was a touchdown machine during his final two years at Texas A&M, scoring 18 rushing touchdowns on 265 carries.
Marlowe appears on the 53-man roster for the second time this season. When Micah Hyde and Rafael Bush missed the game against the Tennessee Titans due to injury, Marlowe started and played every snap in the 13-12 win. He was very good in the game, making four tackles and breaking up a pass while helping the Bills hold Marcus Mariota to 129 passing yards on the day.
With the cornerback position thin, these may not be the only roster moves we see this week.
