PFF gave the Chiefs safety his highest grade since his return in early November.
Each week, Pro Football Focus shares some notes from the Kansas City Chiefs’ previous game as part of something it calls PFF Insights. This week, the Chiefs lost their fourth game of the season to the Seattle Seahawks, 38-31.
Pro Football Focus noted that right tackle Mitch Schwartz came into Sunday night having allowed nine total pressures in the previous two games, but Schwartz played much better against the Seahawks.
PFF: Schwartz allowed just two total pressures in Seattle (one quarterback hit and one quarterback hurry). Schwartz’s 98.0 Pass Blocking Efficiency rating is still fifth-best among qualifying tackles (minimum 145 pass blocking snaps) in the NFL.
On the defensive side of the football, Chris Jones continued his outstanding season.
PFF: Jones pressured Russell Wilson eight times (including 2.0 sacks, one quarterback hit and five quarterback hurries). Jones now has 70 total pressures on the season, third most in the NFL among interior defenders. Rare for him, Jones was charged with four missed tackles against Seattle after coming into the game having had two all season.
Jones is second in the NFL in sacks (15.5), trailing only Los Angeles’ Aaron Donald (19.5).
Other Chiefs notes from PFF for Week 16
- Patrick Mahomes totaled 273 yards and three touchdowns in the game. In his 18 dropbacks under pressure, Mahomes went 6 for 14 for 99 yards and a touchdown, with all six completions going for a first down or touchdown. Mahomes has an NFL-best 1,358 yards on deep passes (20-plus yards in air) this season.
- Many have said safety Daniel Sorensen has returned slow from injury, but he had his best game since his return against Seattle, according to PFF. Sorensen recorded his first two pressures of the season (one quarterback hurry and one quarterback hit). He was also in coverage on one pass, and though he allowed the reception, it went for a 1-yard loss. He finished with five tackles, including three stops, both season highs. The Chiefs activated Sorensen from IR in early November.
