Eagles Injury Report: Darren Sproles expects to play against Redskins

The penultimate injury update prior to Eagles vs. Washington.

The Philadelphia Eagles released their second official injury report on Friday in advance of their Week 13 game against the Washington Redskins.

The big news is that Darren Sproles — who was limited in practice for the second day in a row — plans on playing this week. The 35-year-old running back hasn’t suited up since the Eagles’ Week 1 game against the Falcons. He was originally on pace to return in Week 10 but he re-injured himself. Sproles told reporters he had “more than a hamstring injury” but didn’t get into specifics.

Given his unreliability this season, it’s hard to believe Sproles will be playing until we actually see it happen. Assuming he DOES play, it will be interesting to see how the Eagles use him. One would think his workload will be limited since he’s coming off injury and Josh Adams has been efficient as Philadelphia’s lead ball carrier. Sproles could also replace Golden Tate on punt returns.

It’s probably too late for Sproles’ return to make much of a meaningful difference for the 2018 Eagles, which is a bummer. With that said, Sproles still has a chance to achieve a personal milestone. If he gains 467 more all-purpose yards over the final five games, he’ll rank fifth all-time in that category. There are worse ways to go out.

Eagles starting right guard Brandon Brooks was also limited for the second day in a row. If he can’t play, Philadelphia could start Stefen Wisniewski in his place. Or maybe we’d see a rotation with him and Chance Warmack?

The same five players who did not practice on Thursday also did not practice on Friday: Michael Bennett, Jordan Hicks, Avonte Maddox, Jalen Mills, Jason Peters. Bennett said he expects to play but he’s now missed two practices. The coaching staff might be OK with him missing time since he’s a veteran. Speaking of, Peters missed practice again due to personal reasons. There’s been no indication he won’t play.

Nigel Bradham and Timmy Jernigan were upgraded to full participants after being limited on Thursday. Good to see. Also worth noting that Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, and Chandon Sullivan were full go once again.
