Justin Herbert returning to Oregon

The consensus top quarterback in this year’s draft won’t be available to NFL teams for another year.

Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert is returning to school for his senior season and as a Jacksonville Jaguars fan who desperately wants to see as many good quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft, I am not mad and I’m actually laughing.

After all, a win against the Miami Dolphins did nothing to get us closer to the playoffs this year — we were eliminated in November — but it did help move us down to No. 9 overall in the first round.

You love to see it.

Herbert was the second quarterback off the board in Dan Kadar’s Christmas Eve mock draft for SB Nation. The Jaguars were still predicted to select Dwayne Haskins all the way at ninth overall, but there are two problems with Haskins sliding that far down.

  1. Kadar’s mock draft didn’t take into account trades and there will undoubtedly be trades to get into a top position to grab a quarterback.
  2. Haskins still hasn’t declared either!

It’s Haskins or bust, apparently. If not Haskins then it would either be Missouri’s Drew Lock, West Virginia’s Will Grier, Duke’s Daniel Jones, or... another year of [anvil falls on head]
