The Los Angeles Chargers (10-3) are being hosted by their division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs (11-2), tonight in a game that has obvious enormous implications for who will not only win the division but likely be in the driver’s seat for home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.
The Chiefs won the first matchup this season when they came into Carson, CA in September and won rather convincingly. Patrick Mahomes threw for 4 touchdowns in that contest, but it was Tyreek Hill who truly dominated the game. Gus Bradley’s defense seemingly had no answer for him as he caught 7 passes for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hopefully, the defense is better prepared for the speedster tonight.
The Chiefs will be without Kareem Hunt, whom they released earlier in the month. He was not terribly productive in their first game, but the defense certainly had to respect the fact that he was dangerous. Hunt’s replacement, Spencer Ware, is injured. Damien Williams will almost certainly be the feature back tonight. He’s not a bad player, but he’s a substantial step down from Hunt or a healthy Ware.
The most noteworthy difference from the first contest has to be that Joey Bosa is back. And he is playing like one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. A more limited KC rushing attack combined with a superior LA pass rush should take a lot of pressure off the Chargers’ defensive backfield and give the visitors a much better chance of winning.
Go Chargers!
