Continuing a busy couple days of roster moves, the Raiders have sent safety Reggie Nelson to injured reserve. Replacing him on the roster is veteran corner back Bene Benwikere.
Nelson suffered the injury in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs.
Benwickere is a 5-year veteran NFL cornerback. He was a 5th round selection by the Carolina Panthers in 2014 and spent his first three seasons with the Panthers. From there he spent parts of 2016-17 on the practice squads for the Dolphins, Packers, and Bengals before appearing in 23 games over the past two seasons with the Cowboys and Cardinals.
He was released by the Cardinals on November 27 after 8 starts this season. He had 51 combined tackles, 1 interception, and 4 passes defended in 11 appearances. Among his starts was against the Raiders two weeks ago in which he had 8 combined tackles and a pass defended.
The San Jose State Alum joins several other additions today along with Vallejo native and Cal Alum CJ Anderson and defensive ends Damontre Moore and Kony Ealy.
Along with Nelson to IR, other corresponding moves include Martavis Bryant and Shilique Calhoun to IR and Fadol Brown waived.
