What we know about the NFL Head Coaching search.
The coaching wheels continue to turn in the NFL.
We are a week into the head coaching searches for the NFL and while no teams have made a hire yet, the landscape is being laid out.
Here’s what we know.
Arizona Cardinals - Interviews with Adam Gase, Jim Caldwell, Zac Taylor and Dan Campbell are completed. The Cardinals are awaiting an opportunity to formally interview Kliff Kingsbury, who has been blocked by USC for interviews, but now it seems like Kingsbury may be willing to resign and pay his own, minimal buyout. The thing with that is, you have to believe there is a gentlemen’s agreement in place with some team if Kingsbury is willing to make that move. Could it be Arizona?
Cincinnati Bengals - There is a growing belief that the Bengals have their eyes set on Vance Joseph or Eric Bienemy. It seems like Joseph is the front runner for this job, which would be a quick turnaround for a coach who was just let go.
Cleveland Browns - The general consensus right now is that the Browns have their eyes on Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. It would allow the Browns to leave much of their staff in place and give them a young staff, but also one that was extremely successful the back half of the season.
They’ve interviewed all the big names, Brian Flores, Jim Caldwell, Dan Campbell, and others, and Mike McCarthy looms, but it seems like their sights have changed.
Denver Broncos - Is it the Mike Munchak show in Denver? It seems like that is what is going to happen. The Broncos are also keeping Gary Kubiak in the organization, potentially as offensive coordinator, which means they will have a strong offensive coaching staff. Is Chuck Pagano going to be the defensive coordinator?
Green Bay Packers - Maybe the hardest coaching position to nail down right now, the rumors out say it is Josh McDaniels, but they have brought in Dan Campbell, Matt LaFleur, Jim Caldwell and Adam Gase as well. Is it McDaniels job to lose?
Miami Dolphins - The surprise candidate is Dennis Allen? They allegedly like Kris Richard, but there is a huge push from within the organization for special teams coach Darren Rizzi.
New York Jets - Apparently, Mike McCarthy has now turned down the Jets coaching position, which means it could be Adam Gase, but the Jets are also interested in Kliff Kingsbury and former Baylor Head Coach Matt Rhule. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes, because how will the Jets and Cardinals fight it out for the Gase and Kingsbury duo? Will someone else insert themselves into the conversation?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - It seems like it is the Bruce Arians show in Tampa. We’ll just leave it at that, but the idea that Arians was worn down from coaching and a year later is rejuvenated and ready to go again… is something.
