Pro Football Focus is just the latest to proclaim Kansas City’s most famous ketchup consumer as the NFL’s best player

Pro Football Focus has named Mahomes as its NFL Most Valuable Player for the 2018 season.
PFF is now calculating a Wins Above Replacement statistic — similar to that commonly used by baseball stats geeks — and found that using its WAR, Mahomes was the NFL’s cream of the crop in 2018.
All the data points to the quarterback position being by far the most valuable in football. In fact, 11 quarterbacks had a higher WAR than the most valuable position player (DeAndre Hopkins). However, topping them all with a whopping 7.49 wins above replacement this season, Patrick Mahomes is the 2018 recipient of PFF’s Most Valuable Player.
Not surprisingly, PFF said that the race was between Mahomes and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees for much of the season, but that Mahomes proved to be more consistent than Brees and ultimately pulled away. Mahomes also broke PFF’s single-season deep passing yardage record, totaling 1,514 yards on passes thrown more than 20 yards downfield.
Maybe the most special thing about Mahomes though was his playmaking ability outside of the pocket. The Chiefs quarterback gained 1,156 of his passing yards on plays outside the pocket – 319 more yards than any other quarterback in the NFL. His 16 touchdown passes on such plays were twice as many as any other quarterback in the league. Even when the initial play call was shut down perfectly, Mahomes could still get the job done.
So... yet another award for Mahomes to put on the wall of his man cave after his first season as an NFL starter. But the big macaroni — the Associated Press NFL MVP award — has yet to be announced. Voting for that award was done before the postseason began, and the results will be revealed during the NFL Honors TV special the night before the Super Bowl — now just a week from Saturday.
It seems more and more likely that the big macaroni will be served with ketchup.
