The Texans are seeing moves made despite earlier reports that no coaching moves were going to be made.
At the start of the offseason, it was assumed the Texans would be making zero coaching changes. The same old, same old would return in 2019. No offensive coordinator. No new offensive line coach. No new friends.
Then yesterday happened. It was announced Brian Cushing will help the Texans lift even heavier weights and coach the defense here and there.
Then it was announced quarterback coach Sean Ryan wouldn’t be back. Ryan was expected to be an offensive coordinator somewhere someday. That day will have to wait. Ryan made a lateral move to Detroit, where he will be tasked with resuscitating Matthew Stafford out of the Alex Smith-ish 2018 he just had despite having a Joe Flacco-ish cap hit. Ryan will replace former Texans coach, George Godsey, who was let go and will head to Miami to coach tight ends for the Dolphins.

Oh, wow. I feel like I’m watching Magnolia again.
Wes Welker caught a bunch of passes for the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and somehow made his way to the Rams for like a day. He took all that experience to Houston to help coach the Texans’ receivers. Welker is now nterviewing with other franchises to coach elsewhere. He has spoken with the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers.

Finally, the Texans also hired Clay Hampton to be the Director of Football Operations, a job with duties unknown to me. Hampton used to work for the Jets. Expect him to do something similar in Houston.
Texans have hired former Jets' senior director of football operations Clay Hampton, 51, for the newly created position of director of football operations. He'll answer to GM Brian Gaine. Hampton had different duties with the Jets from 2001-17. He started as a Jets ball boy.

Stick around. Stay awhile. We’ll have more news once the Texans fill these coaching holes.
