Well he was really good last year.
J.J. Watt was named NFL 101 Defensive Player Of The Year. I’m sorry but I’m a sucker for whenever the title is said in a movie or book or television show. NFL 101 is an organization created to teach people about the game of football, so that when those dudes who never watched football in high school have to make friends as adults they have something to fall back on. I’m still not entirely sure when they started giving awards, or entirely what they do, but they are, and they do something, and Watt won a specific one from them.
#Texans DE @JJWatt has been named the NFL 101 AFC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the AFC with 16.0 sacks & leading the NFL with 7 forced fumbles.

As the Texans’ propaganda account says, Watt had a bunch of sacks. 16 of them. Most of them were against backup and crappy right tackles, but still 16 is a lot, and it is more than what I expected heading into this season. A new season for Watt. One where he was finally supposed to be healthy but we heard that one before.
If this was like the Golden Globes then we would be like maybe this helps Watt’s chances for Defensive Player of the Year during the actual NFL Awards, which in this metaphor would be the Oscars. But it isn’t. Aaron Donald is going to win that award since he led the league in sacks as an interior rusher on a team in the Super Bowl.
Regardless, the NFL Awards show is on Saturday February 2nd at 8 p.m. CDT on CBS. This is the Saturday before the Superbowl. Steve Harvey is hosting. Do what you want with this information.
