Baltimore Beatdown Picks: Super Bowl LIII

While it is surprising to see both road teams advance to the Super Bowl, the Patriots are in familiar territory in advancing to their third-straight Super Bowl, and the Rams were an early favorite to make a deep postseason run. The question that remains: will a dynasty bring home their second Lombardi trophy in three years, or will Sean McVay continue his meteoric rise and secure his first Super Bowl victory? The Baltimore Beatdown staff delivers their picks and bold predictions ahead of the big game, and readers can vote in the poll at the bottom of the article.

Baltimore Beatdown Picks:

Dustin (Postseason record: 8-2)

Pick: Patriots

Bold Prediction: The Patriots will do what they do best by taking away the Rams two best players in Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald. Jared Goff will be rattled into making critical mistakes, while New England will play ball control on their way to yet another Super Bowl win.

Jake (Postseason record: 6-4)

Pick: Patriots

Bold Prediction: New England will win another nail biter, in which Rob Gronkowski will score two touchdowns and Greg Zuerlein, after making clutch kicks in the NFC Championship, will miss a potential game winner.

Kyle B. (Postseason record: 6-4)

Pick: Rams

Bold Prediction: After the Patriots traded him in the offseason, Brandin Cooks makes them pay on the largest stage. In a true revenge game, Brandin Cooks posts 130+ yards and two touchdowns to lift Los Angeles to victory.

Frank (Postseason record: 5-5)

Pick: Patriots

Bold Prediction: Sony Michel wins Super Bowl MVP. Michel has dominated in the playoffs thus far, and he should have another big game against a less than stellar Rams run defense, which will vault him over Tom Brady for MVP honors.

Vasilis (Post season record: 5-5)

Pick: Patriots

Bold Prediction: After witnessing the Patriots run to the Super Bowl, the superior coaching staff will prevail. Regardless of personnel, Bill Belichick continues to run circles around the competition. Expect a run-heavy offensive approach from New England paired with a defensive performance that forces Goff into several costly mistakes.

Kyle A. (Postseason record: 4-6)

Pick: Rams

Bold Prediction: The Patriots will hold the Rams offense slightly in check, limiting them to around 350 yards. However, the Rams will capitalize on touchdowns generated by key defensive plays made by Aaron Donald and company, and Donald’s play making ability will land him the Super Bowl MVP award.

Logan (Postseason record: 4-6)

Pick: Rams

Bold Prediction: The Super Bowl will feature strength vs. strength as the Patriots stout offensive line will look to contain Los Angeles’ premiere defensive line. In the end, Wade Phillips’ unit will do just enough to hold Tom Brady and company under 30 points to secure a win.

Sage (Postseason record: 3-7)

Pick: Patriots

Bold Prediction: To the chagrin of the rest of the league, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick will secure their sixth ring, leveraging experience over youth. Historically, New England’s titles have come in tight contests, with the Patriots winning by an average of 3.8 points. However, despite being only 2.5 point favorites, they will usurp their largest margin of victory (six against the Falcons in 2016), recording their most dominate Super Bowl performance.

Readers (Postseason record: 4-6)
