One of the best offenses in the history of the NFL in the Year of Offense couldn’t get anything going in the final game of the year.
And that’s why they’re the New England Patriots.
The Los Angeles Rams had one of the league’s best offenses in the Year of Offense. They came into Super Bowl LIII.
And they produced next to nothing.
The offensive line was overmatched throughout. That didn’t help QB Jared Goff who had a horrible day. And with RB Todd Gurley injured, it was going to be down to the O-line and passing game. And none of it came together.
Perhaps unfairly, it obscures a fantastic performance from the defense. The Rams limited the Patriots offensively throughout keeping them to just a single touchdown on a night when the Rams’ defense got such little support from the offense.
But that’s life. And that’s football.
And so the Rams move on. Two years into Rams Head Coach Sean McVay’s tenure. Three years into Goff’s career. The future remains bright.
But tonight, on a night when we got so little done on offense, things are dark.
This is now the challenge for McVay and the Rams.
Moving forward.
Onward.
And upward.
