The top athletic performances at the 2019 combine at each position on defense.

Edge rushers

Montez Sweat, Mississippi State

He had the fastest 40 among edge rushers (4.41), the 3^rd fastest 20-yard shuttle (4.29), 4^th longest broad jump (10’5”), 4^th fastest 3-cone (7.01), and 6^th highest vertical (36.0)

Brian Burns, Florida State

He had the third fastest 40-yard dash (4.53), the 2^nd longest broad jump (10’9”), the 5^th fastest 3-cone (7.01), and 6^th highest vertical (36.0)

Defensive line

Maxx Crosby, Eastern Michigan

He had the longest broad jump (10’2”), fastest 3-cone (6.89), fastest 20-yard shuttle. 2^nd fastest 40-yard dash (4.66), and 3^rd highest vertical (36.0).

Ed Oliver, Houston

The most athletic defensive tackle in this draft. He had the third most reps on the bench press (32) showing his upper body strength, the 3^rd highest vertical (36.0) and 2^nd longest broadh jump (10’0”) showing his lower body strength. That’s impressive numbers for a 285-pounder.

Linebackers

Devin White, LSU

He’s the best linebacker in this draft. He also happens to be the fastest, running a LB best 4.42 40-yard dash, and the second highest vertical (39.5).

Devin Bush, Michigan

Had the second fastest 40-yard dash (4.43), the highest vertical (40.5), the third longest broad jump (10.4”), and the 5^th fastest 3-cone (6.93).

Drue Tranquill, Notre Dame

Gotta get some brute strength in here and Drue Tranquill has that, leading the LB’s with 31 reps on the bench press. He also had the 5th fastest 20-yard shuttle and 6th fastest 3-cone.

Cornerback

Jamel Dean, Auburn

No measure for a cornerback meant more than 40 time for Al Davis. Dean’s 4.30 40 was the fastest of the corners. Done deal. He also had the third highest vertical (41.0), 6^th longest broad jump (10’10”)

Greedy Williams, LSU

He was already considered the best cornerback in this draft. His 4.37 40-yard dash (2^nd among corners) drives the point home.

Safeties

Zedrick Woods, Ole Miss

In the school of 40-time rules them all, Woods was the best. His 4.29 40 topped all players at the 2019 combine. He had the 5th most bench press reps (19), and 6th fastest 3-cone (7.00)

Juan Thornhill, Virginia

Woods has the speed and Thornhill has the leaping ability. He had the highest vertical (44.0) and longest broad jump (11’9”) at any position. But he wouldn’t be here if he was slow. He had the 5th fastest 40 (4.42) among the safeties and his 21 bench press reps were second most.
