The Denver Broncos have re-signed nose tackle/defensive end Zach Kerr to a two-year contract on Saturday.
The Denver Broncos filled a need at nose tackle/defensive end when they re-signed Zach Kerr to a two-year deal on Saturday. With Domata Peko leaving in free agency too, it was vital they find someone to fill in the depth behind Shelby Harris.
“Coach Kollar was definitely a factor in me returning,” Kerr said. “It was a no-brainer. Me, Derek and Von all work out together. That played a big part. Shelby as well. I feel Vic is guy to take us over the hump.”
Ultimately, it came down to the coaches and the moves Kerr saw the Broncos making in free agency.
“We brought in two really, really good defensive backs,” Kerr added. “Once I saw that we were making those type of moves, I was like , ‘You know what, that’s something I want to be a part of.’”
Zerr, 28, was an undrafted free agent in 2014 and spent his first three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. At 6’2”, 334 pounds, he should find a larger role at nose tackle under Vic Fangio’s defense. Given that fact, he could be an underrated signing.
In 2018, he started the season playing around 30% of the snaps on defense, but by the end of the year his role had grown to 45% of the snaps - mostly at defensive end.
In two seasons with the Broncos, he has racked up 52 tackles, four passes defenses, and a forced fumble and recovery.
